For the more serious dancer that has selected competitive dance as an exclusive activity. This company is comprised of our intermediate and advanced students and is available by audition only. Members of this distinguished program get exclusive access to guest and master teachers that come to work with MLDA dancers. This nationally award winning company will attend conventions and competitions locally and at the national level every other year. This is a prestigious competitive team that is created for dancers who are accelerated in training and level. Consistent attendance is expected in all required classes and will be closely monitored and enforced.

Junior (Intermediate) - This program is designed for dancers that love to train, compete and perform. Their curriculum is well-rounded and includes training in: Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Turns, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Tap and Flex. Their class schedule is 10-11 hours per week, including rehearsal.

Intern (Accelerated) - Amidst the MLDA Competitive program we have Interns. These accelerated dancers have a more demanding class schedule. Therefore, attendance and commitment level for Interns will be closely monitored and enforced at a higher level. This program is designed for dancers and artists who are driven and can accommodate the strenuous demands physically as well as mentally. The class schedule is roughly 15+ hours weekly, not including rehearsal. Their curriculum is well-rounded and includes required training in all genres; Ballet, Lyrical/ Contemporary, Jazz, Turns, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Flexibility.

Teen and Senior (Advanced) - This program is designed for dancers that love to train, compete and perform. They are at a higher level of training but need more freedom in their schedule. Some dancers in this program do want to pursue a professional dance career or major in dance at a collegiate level after high school and others may not. Their curriculum is well-rounded and includes training in: Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Turns, Improv as well as optional classes in Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Tap and Flex. (*Enrollment in Tap, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop is mandatory for dancers if they would like to compete in those genres). Their class schedule is roughly 10 required hours per week, including rehearsal with an additional 5.5 hours of optional classes offered. Dancers can choose to take as many or as few optional classes as works with their schedule.

WHY Competitive?  This is an amazing experience for young dancers/artists to be a part of a team experience! The benefits of competitive company participation are friendship and team bonding, arts education, self-esteem, camaraderie, teamwork, positive environment, physical training and fitness.

We realize that competitive dance is not a one size fits all and Michelle Latimer Dance Academy is excited to offer options that will help each individual dancer reach their personal goals as a dancer.

We want every student to reach their maximum potential and be the best dancer they can be!
